Apple Inc. has agreed to a $250 million settlement of a class-action lawsuit over how it marketed Apple Intelligence features on certain iPhones, and the claim window is now open.
Consumers who purchased certain iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models in 2024 and 2025 may be eligible for up to $95.
Claims are being accepted through Dec. 21, 2026.
What the Apple iPhone settlement is about
The plaintiffs allege that "Apple promoted AI capabilities that did not exist at the time, do not exist now, and will not exist for two or more years, if ever, all while marketing them as the breakthrough innovation of the iPhone 16."
According to the complaint, Apple ( AAPL ) marketed the "enhanced Siri" personal assistant as an Apple Intelligence tool that would "perform a wide range of sophisticated tasks." Millions of consumers purchased or upgraded to the iPhone 16 because of the AI campaign launched in 2024, the complaint said, adding that Apple later admitted in March 2025 that the marketed functionality did not yet exist.
Apple denied the allegations in the lawsuit and contended that it did nothing improper or unlawful.
Consumers who purchased an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025, may be eligible for payment under the settlement. The purchase must have been made in the U.S. by a U.S. resident. Only original owners who purchased the device for personal or business use, not for resale, qualify for the settlement.
How much will eligible iPhone buyers be paid?
The $250 million settlement fund is being paid to consumers who submit a valid claim form. The original owner of each eligible iPhone will receive $25 per device, up to a maximum of $95. Payments may vary, depending on how many valid claims are received.
Payments will be issued by check, direct deposit, PayPal, or Venmo.
