Stock market today: Top laggards on BSE Sensex TCS emerged as the top loser on the BSE Sensex, falling 0.84%, followed by Infosys, which declined 0.57%. M&M slipped 0.42%, while Maruti Suzuki fell 0.32%. Brent crude futures were at $99.09 a barrel, down 16 cents, or 0.16%, while WTI crude stood at $90.10, lower by 42 cents, or 0.46%. Brent had closed below $100 on Tuesday for the first time since September 8. Saudi Arabia's restart of its East-West Pipeline to the Red Sea was cited alongside signs of increased Middle Eastern oil flows. Iraq was also reported to be increasing oil exports. Separately, US crude inventories rose by 1.8 million barrels in the week to September 18, against expectations of a decline. Brent had earlier fallen 1.67% to $98.66 a barrel. .Stock market today: Rupee ended previous session 16 paise stronger against USD Rupee strengthened 16 paise to close at 95.62 against the US dollar in the previous trading session, supported by a sharp decline in crude oil prices, improved global risk sentiment and hopes of diplomatic talks to resolve the US-Iran war. The Indian currency opened at 95.75 and gained ground during the session to touch 95.55 against the dollar before settling at 95.62. The currency had closed at 95.78 in the previous session after appreciating 18 paise. The dollar index was trading at 100.34, down 0.08%, while US Treasury yields also declined after reports around possible diplomatic developments. Anuj Choudhary of Mirae Asset Sharekhan said the rupee was expected to trade with a positive bias, with USD-INR spot price seen in a 95.30-95.80 range. .Stock market recap: Sensex, Nifty close lower after broad-based selling Benchmark indices ended the previous session in red, with BSE Sensex declining 329.91 points, or 0.44%, to settle at 74,529.08, while NSE Nifty fell 85.30 points, or 0.36%, to end at 23,329. The domestic benchmarks declined despite a positive global market trend and lower crude oil prices, with IT, financials and capital goods stocks weighing on the indices. Foreign institutional investors also remained sellers, offloading equities worth Rs 3,809.99 crore on a net basis.
