Game of Thrones Stage Play The Mad King Is Coming to London in 2027

Game of Thrones: The Mad King is coming to London next year.

Author George R.R. Martin has revealed that the Royal Shakespeare Company will bring the prequel stage play to the UK capital in 2027. A venue or premiere date has not been announced yet.

“I had a splendid time in Stratford upon Avon for the premier of Duncan Macmillan and Dominic Cooke’s epic new stage production of Game of Thrones: The Mad King. And furthermore I’m thrilled to announce that the production will be moving on to London to share the experience with a wider audience,” Martin wrote on his blog .

Game of Thrones: The Mad King began its six-week run in July at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford. It closes this week, having earned rave reviews and many sold out shows.

The play is set roughly 15 years before Martin’s first A Song of Ice and Fire book begins. It chronicles the downfall of King Aerys II Targaryen, aka “The Mad King” who was overthrown during Robert’s Rebellion.
