Thyroid tablets recalled nationwide over potential ‘superpotency’: FDA

( NewsNation ) — Vitruvias Therapeutics is voluntarily recalling one lot of thyroid tablet s because they could potentially be “superpotent,” federal regulators announced this week.

The high potency 30mg tablets could cause hyperthyroidism, or an overactive thyroid, according to the Food and Drug Administration . The affected lot (504950) was distributed nationwide to Vitruvias Therapeutics’ direct accounts from Jan. 31 to Sept. 30, 2025.

Consuming the recalled tablets could result in “weight loss, heat intolerance, fatigue, nervousness, muscle weakness, hypertension, chest pain, rapid heart rate, or heart rhythm disturbances,” the FDA warned. The elderly, pregnant women and infants are at the greatest risk.

Of the 3,655 units released, only 1955 were sold, the agency added.

Vitruvias Therapeutics is currently notifying wholesalers to stop distributing the recalled product and to arrange for its destruction.

The company hasn’t received any reports of negative impacts from the recalled tablets, which are used to treat hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid, the FDA added. Patients taking the affected lot are advised not to discontinue use without first consulting their health care provider.
