Meghan McCain, former Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) daughter, predicts that convicted Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes will get a pardon from President Trump.
“One of my hottest, hot takes is that Elizabeth Holmes will eventually get a Trump pardon,” McCain wrote on the social platform X .
She shared her thoughts in another post , asking comedian and satirist Nathan Fielder if he was “aware he just made Elizabeth getting a Trump pardon a lot more likely?”
McCain is referring to Fielder’s “ You Can See Everything ” documentary that followed Holmes in the days before she reported to federal prison.
Holmes was convicted in 2022 of defrauding investors over lofty claims about Theranos’s blood-testing technology, asserting that it could perform several diagnostic tests with only one drop of blood. She is serving her 10-year sentence in Texas but is scheduled to move to a halfway house in Austin, Texas, in August 2027.
Her company attracted several major figures, including media mogul Rupert Murdoch and former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, to invest in Theranos. Former Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and George Shultz also sat on the company’s board.
The Theranos founder reportedly asked the Trump administration earlier this year to commute her prison sentence in 2025, according to the Justice Department’s Office of the Pardon Attorney. The office still lists the case as pending, meaning the clemency case “has been opened and the petition is under review.”
Until the status is altered, details about the petition or case cannot be shared, per the Justice Department’s Office of the Pardon Attorney.
During his stints in the White House, Trump has used his pardon power for Jan. 6 rioters and, recently, for two diesel mechanics who were previously charged with and pled guilty to violating the Clean Air Act.
A CBS News analysis from Tuesday reported that Trump’s pardons in his second term have forgiven approximately $1.1 billion in restitution owed to crime victims
This is notably higher than Biden, who forgave $680,000 in his presidential term, according to a study done by the Cato Institute .
