2 Miami airport runways still closed after Amazon cargo plane crash
Five people were killed and five were injured in the Sunday crash, prompting a mass emergency response.
NewsNation — Two of Miami International Airport’s four runways remain closed after an Amazon Air cargo plane overran a runway , killing five people and injuring five others.
“Because of aircraft and flight crews not arriving at MIA due to cancellations over the last few days, we will continue to see impacts to operations,” the airport announced on social platform X.
“Passengers with flights scheduled today should check directly with their airline for flight status updates before heading to the airport,” officials added.
The Sunday crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration.
The plane struck multiple vehicles and caught fire, prompting a massive emergency response, a ground stop and widespread flight disruptions.
NTSB chair Jennifer Homendy called the crash scene “devastating.”
Initially, the incident had closed all four of the airport’s runways. Two are now back in use, though airport operations remain impacted.
