US launches new strikes against Iran as Trump says he’s “not trying to force Iran to the negotiating table”

The U.S. military completed a new wave of strikes Tuesday on targets in Iran as the conflict in the region stretches into its seventh month.

“U.S. forces struck Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets including air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine laying capabilities, and communications sites,” U.S. Central Command (Centcom) wrote in a press release Tuesday .

One U.S. strike hit a home hosting a wedding, killing five people – including a child – and wounding dozens, The Associated Press and other outlets reported.

“More than 50,000 U.S. service members are currently operating across the Middle East and remain vigilant, lethal, and prepared to continue executing operations directed by the Commander in Chief,” Centcom concluded.

The continued strikes are in the face of little to no progress in talks to get Tehran to give up its nuclear program and release its hold on the Strait of Hormuz with President Trump saying he is “not trying to force Iran to the negotiating table.”

“I couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement. I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing,” Trump stated on Truth Social Tuesday . “They are just playing out the inevitable. When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight?”

The U.S. has already enacted a naval blockade against Iranian oil exports in the Strait of Hormuz and has tried to secretly ferry stranded tankers through the waterway but transit remains difficult as strikes continue.

A June memorandum of understanding sought to begin to end the war but fell apart when Iran and the U.S. disputed who was given control over the Strait of Hormuz according to the agreement.

In another escalation, Iranian media claimed the IRGC carried out attacks in late August that “killed a large number of U.S. forces” in a missile and drone attack on military facilities in Jordan but a U.S. official disputed this claim.

“These claims are false. All American personnel are accounted for,” the official told News Nation Tuesday.

The United Arab Emirates Defense Ministry also denied similar claims from Iranian media that IRGC targeted Centcom forces and helicopters at Al Minhad Air Base and warned against media misinformation.
