Two Air Force pilots safely ejected from their aircraft near San Antonio on Thursday because of potential issues with their landing gear.
The pilots — who were part of a training program at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph in Texas — received indications their landing gear was unsafe and ejected at the recommendation of experts, a statement from the base said. The pilots were evaluated by local medical personnel.
“Two pilots successfully ejected from a T-6A Texan II assigned to the 12th Flying Training Wing during a controlled bailout near Seguin, Texas,” a release from the base states.
The 12th Flying Training Wing is a program that develops enlisted Air Force aviators and crew members through “flying training and education.” Airmen in the program are trained in a variety of disciplines including combat systems officer training, pilot instructor training and enlisted aviator training.
The sheriff’s office for nearby Wilson County said in a Thursday Facebook post that they were responding to the scene of an “aircraft accident” along with a number of other agencies. They affirmed that there was no threat to the public.
“You can expect a large presence of law enforcement, military, fire, and EMS personnel,” the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office wrote at the time.
