Trump posts update on Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool

President Trump posted an update Friday on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, quoting an Interior Department official as saying it was “Coming out great!” and will be open in a few weeks.

In a Truth Social post , Trump quoted Interior’s Greg Wischer as saying, “I visited the Reflecting Pool this morning, and pictures are included below of the pool reflecting and the American Flag Blue color.”

The post, entirely attributed to Wischer, also said the pool will “be opening in a few weeks. Will be a beauty. NO VANDALS PLEASE.”

It also said it has been partially refilled so that National Park Service staff and contractors can flush its piping system.

The state of the Reflecting Pool has been a source of controversy in recent weeks. The president repeatedly touted the multimillion-dollar project while it was underway, but it appeared to be gray and peeling after its expected completion date.

The unusual use of no-bid contracts for work on the Reflecting Pool has been a particular source of scrutiny.

Trump and the Interior Department have blamed vandals for the state of the pool. However, a recent filing from U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro cast doubt on that narrative and instead blamed botched work.

Trump’s latest post blamed previous administrations, saying, “After years of neglect by previous administrations, more than half of the 58 water supply ports were so clogged that they were deemed nonfunctioning. This work is ongoing. We waited until after July 4th to do. Coming out great!”
