Traveling for Labor Day? Here’s how to renew your TSA PreCheck

( NewsNation ) — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects more than 17 million travelers to come through airports across the country for this upcoming Labor Day weekend.

While arriving at the airport early and being prepared can relieve some of the wait time in long security lines, some travelers opt for TSA PreCheck , which offers flyers a quicker airline security experience.

If you think it’s nearly time to renew your PreCheck , here’s how to do it.

TSA PreCheck offers flyers shorter wait times by eliminating such hassles as having to remove articles of clothing while in line or removing electronics and liquids from bags.

According to PreCheck provider Telos , most PreCheck passengers wait less than 10 minutes in dedicated security lines.

PreCheck is valid for five years at a time. You can renew up to six months before your TSA PreCheck expires.

TSA PreCheck can be renewed through three providers: Clear, Idemia and Telos. Renewal can be done online or in person.

You don’t need your passport or ID to renew your PreCheck online. You will need to know your nine-digit Known Traveler Number (KTN), which you can look up , as well as your date of birth and legal last name (legal name changes require an in-person visit). Any changes to your contact or address information should also be noted.

Renewal costs vary slightly by provider and whether it’s done online or in person, but travelers can expect to pay from $60 to $80. For providers Clear and Idemia, it is cheaper to renew online. For Telos, it is cheaper to renew in person.

In addition, some credit cards offer statement credit toward TSA PreCheck renewal fees.
