Pentagon picks Poland for new missile maintenance facility
The Pentagon picked Poland to host the maintenance center for Lockheed Martin’s Patriot interceptor missiles , the department announced Tuesday.
The Pentagon said the new center will provide maintenance, repair and overhaul for PAC-3 missiles, enhancing “ operational readiness ” across allied air and missile defense forces.
“Delivering for warfighters—anytime, anywhere—is how we deter our adversaries and strengthen collective defense,” Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael P. Duffey said in a statement .
“Today’s announcement puts partnership into action,” Duffey added. “By investing national resources to establish this critical sustainment capability on NATO’s Eastern Front, Allies are sending a clear message: the Alliance is united, serious about deterrence and ready to back our words with action.”
The new facility comes as the Russia-Ukraine war and the U.S.-Israel conflict against Iran have drained missile interceptor stocks , prompting delays.
“ Poland earned this opportunity through its strong proposal, eagerness to expand its defense industrial capabilities and willingness to invest in its own defense,” Tom Rose, U.S. ambassador to Poland, said Tuesday. “The MMF facility will expand critical maintenance capacity and reinforce trusted supply chains.”
