NFL to DHS: Take down video featuring Eagles star Brian Dawkins

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is refusing a request from the NFL and former Philadelphia Eagles player Brian Dawkins to take down a video it posted using the Hall of Fame safety to promote President Trump’s immigration agenda .

The video, which was posted Sunday on a DHS social media account, responded to a headline that claimed, “Huge migrant caravan headed towards the US southern border.”

“Our time has come,” the department wrote, attaching a clip of Dawkins making violent tackles and pumping up fans and teammates.

The NFL asked the DHS on Monday to take the video down, The Athletic first reported .

“DHS is playing lockdown defense at the border. We will use every Weapon at our disposal, from A to X, to keep Americans safe,” a spokesperson for the department told The Hill in response to the NFL’s request.

In a video posted on his own social media account, Dawkins said he did not give permission for his name, image and likeness “to be used by anybody.”

“Take a deep breath,” he said. “Ya’ll be blessed.”

During his more than decade in the NFL, Dawkins was one of the most feared safeties in the league and was known for punishing hits and game-saving tackles.

Trump and his allies have increasingly used sports imagery to attempt to connect with voters, with the president attending the University of Texas vs. University of Tennessee football game Saturday before pro golf’s president’s cup Sunday.
