Watch: Long queues outside Apple stores across India as iPhone 18 series, 1st foldable iPhone go on sale

NEW DELHI: Long queues formed outside Apple stores across India on Friday as customers turned up early to get their hands on the company’s latest products, including the iPhone 18 Pro series and its first-ever foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo.At a store in Bengaluru, customers began arriving as early as 5am, with buyers travelling from Haryana, Delhi and Mumbai for the launch. One customer, Rahul, said he had been buying iPhones for years and described the annual launch as a “festival”.In Noida, a buyer who had travelled from Punjab said he had been standing in the queue since 6am after booking two iPhone 18 Pro Max devices.The rush came despite the premium pricing of Apple’s latest lineup, which includes the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4 and the new foldable iPhone Duo.The iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900 for the 256GB model, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900. Both models are available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage variants.The 18 Pro series comes in black, silver, glacier and a new burgundy finish. The phones feature a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture and new Pro camera controls. They are powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip and a new vapour chamber aimed at improving performance, AI features and battery life.Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro Max offers the longest battery life of any Pro model.Apple's first foldable iPhoneThe iPhone Duo is the biggest new addition to Apple’s lineup and marks the company’s entry into the foldable smartphone segment.It features a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple says it is the thinnest iPhone when unfolded. The device is powered by the A20 Pro chip and comes with an advanced camera system, all-day battery life and new multitasking features.The Duo also supports dual-display experiences through iOS 27, along with Apple Intelligence and Siri.AirPods and Apple Watch updatesApple’s new AirPods 5 feature Active Noise Cancellation in an open-ear design. The company claims they remove up to 50% more outside noise than AirPods 4 with ANC.The earbuds also offer Adaptive EQ, hands-free Siri, Live Translation and Siri Interactions through head movements. The Wireless Charging Case version provides up to five hours of listening time with ANC.The Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 feature the S11 chip and Health Sensing System, along with heart-rate sensing, more frequent heart-rate and HRV readings and a new readiness score.The Series 12 offers up to 24 hours of battery life, while the Ultra 4 offers up to 50 hours and can track outdoor workouts for up to 45 hours.In India, pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro models began on September 12, while the AirPods 5 and new Apple Watches opened for pre-orders on September 9.
