Google’s Pixel Buds update will put them to sleep along with you
Plus new voice controls, and one-tap microphone muting and live translation, for the Buds 2A and Pro 2.
Google has detailed an update bringing a slew of new features to its Pixel Buds 2A and Pro 2, which the company says are rolling out now. The new features were first teased in August. The biggest update is Pixel Watch-powered sleep detection, rolling out to both pairs of earbuds. If you’re wearing a Pixel Watch, the buds will now react when you fall asleep, by pausing music, silencing notifications, and turning off touch controls. Several other updates are also coming to both the Buds 2A and Pro. Tap-to-mute allows you to mute or unmute your microphone with a quick tap during calls, though only when also using a Pixel phone, and you can now activate live translation with a single tap. New Gemini voice commands will allow you to control active noise cancellation (ANC), adjust the EQ, or turn on touch controls. The final new feature is Dynamic ANC, which will adjust audio and ANC levels based on the quality of the buds’ seal in your ears. This is exclusive to the Buds Pro 2. Google announced the update rollout in a Pixel Buds community forum post. The original version of the announcement, posted yesterday, said that all the features except Dynamic ANC would also be coming to the original Pixel Buds Pro, but all mention of those earbuds has now been removed from the post. Pixel communications lead Natalie Johnson confirmed to The Verge that “these updates are not coming to the original Pixel Buds Pro.” Update, October 7th: Added confirmation that the Pixel Buds Pro will not get the updates.
