Sairaab actor Rohit Chandel gets bail in POCSO case, court notes serious offence

Television actor Rohit Chandel, last seen in the TV show, Sairaab has been granted bail by a Mumbai Sessions Court on Thursday in a POCSO case after a 16-year-old girl accused him of stalking, harassment and assault. As per a report in Indiatoday, the court allowed his release but noted that the offence was serious and refused his request for temporary bail on cash.Special Judge Shashikala S Nagur granted Chandel bail after his lawyer, advocate Saveen Bedi Sachar, told the court that the chargesheet had been filed and the investigation was complete. The detailed order is yet to be released. However, the court set several conditions for the actor’s release. The court ordered that Chandel be released on a personal bond of Rs 50,000, along with a surety for the same amount.While allowing bail, the court imposed conditions prohibiting him from contacting the complainant or her family, including through phone calls and social media. He must also stay away from her residence and must not threaten witnesses, tamper with evidence or influence anyone acquainted with the facts of the case.Chandel has been directed to remain present on every trial date. The record states that failure to comply with the conditions will result in cancellation of bail.Bedi requested that the actor be released at the earliest and sought cash bail instead of providing a surety.
