Windows and Surface event: how to watch and what to expect

Microsoft is heading to San Francisco this morning to reveal what’s coming next for Windows and Surface and a “conversation on how local AI will shape the next chapter of the PC.” That conversation will include Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Windows and Surface chief Pavan Davuluri. I’m expecting to hear a lot more about Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform and Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Ultra that uses Nvidia’s new Arm-based chips. When Microsoft’s Windows and Surface event will happen and where you can watch it Microsoft’s keynote will start at 10AM PT / 1PM ET on Wednesday October 7th. The full presentation should run for around an hour. You can watch it live on YouTube, but the best way to follow along is through our live blog. What to expect from Microsoft’s Windows and Surface event * Surface Laptop Ultra. Microsoft already unveiled its MacBook Pro competitor earlier this year, but we’re still waiting on pricing, release dates, and full specs. I’d expect we’ll get all of these details and lots more. Rumors suggest Microsoft will release multi configurations of the Laptop Ultra, with 18-core and 20-core CPU variants and RAM configurations all the way up to 128GB. * RTX Spark platform. Jensen Huang will appear on stage, so we’re likely to get even more details on Nvidia’s effort to shake-up the Windows laptop market. Microsoft might have the hero device, but there are plenty of OEMs also preparing to launch RTX Spark-powered laptops. * Windows AI agent news. I expect we’ll hear a lot more about Microsoft’s plans to have AI agents running locally on Windows. The Surface Laptop Ultra supercharges these kind of agents thanks to Nvidia’s RTX Spark chips, and Microsoft has already been laying the groundwork for AI agents in Windows for nearly a year now. * Windows 11 improvements. Microsoft has been working to improve lots of parts of Windows 11, including performance on 8GB of RAM devices. I’d expect we’ll hear more about these ongoing efforts, as well as some new Windows features designed for developers and creatives.
