Palantir CEO Alex Karp Is Doubling Down on Defense Tech

The venture comes from former Ukraine defense chief Mykhailo Fedorov

· 182 words

Palantir Technologies Inc. ( PLTR , Financials ) CEO Alex Karp is once again betting on the future of military tech .

Fedorov said: Karp will be the first major investor in a new defense-tech company I'm launching. The size of the investment has not been disclosed.

The firm would draw on technologies and lessons learned during Ukraine's war, where drones, artificial intelligence and battlefield software have become increasingly crucial, Fedorov said.

Karp and Fedorov have worked together before and Palantir has had a strong footprint in Ukraine for years through its defense and intelligence products.

And the transaction is noteworthy for investors because it expands Karp's exposure to the fast-growing military technology industry beyond Palantir itself.

Ukraine has become a trial ground for new military technologies, particularly autonomous systems, drones and artificial intelligence-driven battlefield equipment.

That experience could offer Fedorov's new company a leg up on traditional defense startups that still need years of testing and procurement work.

The question is whether the venture can translate war knowledge into commercial items that will appeal to governments and defense buyers outside Ukraine.
