House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will speak with reporters Monday afternoon as calls for guardrails around artificial intelligence (AI) build after industry experts raised red flags around safety of the emerging technology.
Jeffries and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) have pressed the Trump administration for transparency on how the U.S. will respond to potential threats from AI and what potential regulations could look like. President Trump and GOP leaders have largely brushed off the fears.
His remarks also come as the House faces a shrinking legislative calendar ahead of the November midterms and as Democrats seek to take control of Congress next year.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. EDT.
