(Bloomberg) -- OpenAI will not go public in 2026, Sam Altman told Fortune Magazine in an interview, citing need for safety-related work.

Altman said an initial public offering would be "ill-timed" this year and won't take place until 2027 due to the the safety concerns around artificial intelligence, he said in the interview published Saturday.

The company confidentially filed for an IPO in June, though it has said the timing for the listing remained undecided.
