The tennis star showed AJ Dybantsa some love after his Round of 16 upset over Daniil Medvedev at the U.S. Open on Sunday, with the Washington Wizards rookie and 2026 No. 1 overall pick watching on in the crowd:

The two also had a friendly exchange before Tiafoe began a post-match interview:

Tiafoe is a Wizards fan, so it only makes sense that he would find Dybantsa in the crowd. Back in May, he said the former BYU star was his preference for Washington at No. 1.

And Dybantsa was in the crowd at Roland Garros to watch Tiafoe in action during June's French Open as well.

Tiafoe is such a diehard supporter of the Wizards that back in 2024 the team gave him his own bobblehead night as part of the DMV Bobblehead Series.

"I grew up on John [Wall]. I grew up on Brad [Beal]," he said at the time. "... I obviously loved Gilbert Arenas—Agent Zero—he was the man. Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler, all those guys were super cool."

But the future in Washington belongs to players like Dybantsa, Kyshawn George, Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Bub Carrington and Tre Johnson. That young core, paired with veteran stars Trae Young and Anthony Davis, has Wizards fans feeling levels of optimism they haven't had since the Wall-Beal era.

And Tiafoe—who will face fellow American Alex Michelsen in the quarterfinals on Tuesday—was quick to show the young face of the franchise some love following his upset of Medvedev.
