Taylor Townsend has been forced out of the Guadalajara Open after undergoing emergency surgery.
Straight from completing the career Grand Slam in doubles at the US Open , she won her opening match against Tatjana Maria.
But Townsend was then forced to withdraw from her match against top seed Marta Kostyuk at the WTA 500 tournament in Mexico.
It has now emerged why, with the American ace sharing a double update on social media after her Guadalajara Open withdrawal.

Posting a message on her Instagram story , she wrote: "Welp… this s— definitely wasn't on my bingo card. Through trials and tribulations… still I rise. I'll update y'all soon."
Townsend then shared a post from the tournament shortly after, which involved a statement that read: "Hi everybody, on the heels of achieving my first career Grand Slam at the US Open, I was so excited to play in front of you all at Guadalajara.
"Because of emergency surgery I am forced to withdraw from the GDL Open, and it breaks my heart. But I'm looking forward to coming back next year to see all of you, the greatest tennis fans. Viva Mexico!"
It's a real shame for Townsend, who is clearly enjoying her time on the court right now, both in doubles and singles.

While Townsend is a very competent singles player, she has just joined the history books thanks to her doubles efforts.
Playing alongside Katerina Siniakova at the US Open, the pair went all the way in New York, defeating American pair Robin Montgomery and Ashlyn Krueger in the final.
Taylor Townsend's Grand Slam doubles finals
The victory helped the duo complete the career Grand Slam, following their titles at Wimbledon in 2024, the Australian Open in 2025, and the French Open earlier this year.
It also meant Siniakova has now claimed her second career Grand Slam, having also achieved the feat playing alongside fellow Czech star Barbora Krejcikova.
