Gauff, however, regained her composure and found her rhythm. She steadily eased into the match, using her trademark return skills to force a tiebreak in the second set, which she won.

By the third set, she was in complete control, breaking twice to secure the set and book her place in the semifinals.

In the other quarterfinal match, Elena Rybakina defeated Qinwen Zheng in three sets to reach the US Open semifinal, ensuring that next Monday, she will rise to world No. 1.

Rybakina initially struggled with her first serve and had trouble returning Zheng's strong serve.

However, the two-time major champion quickly found her rhythm in the second set, winning 79 percent of her first-serve points and hitting 10 winners.

In the decisive third set, both players held serve until Rybakina finally broke through late in a game marked by Zheng's errors.

Ultimately, it was another serving masterclass from Rybakina, who won 32 out of 40 points on her first serve.

The semifinals will be played Thursday on ESPN.

Aryna Sabalenka stands just two wins away from becoming only the third woman in the Open Era (since 1968) to capture three consecutive US Open titles.
