The Kazakhstani star claimed her second Grand Slam title of the season on Saturday evening after defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final .

Rybakina was almost unplayable from the baseline, striking 33 total winners during the match.

Elena Rybakina was the big winner in New York, as she has walked away from the tournament with the world number one ranking.

The 27-year-old snatched the top spot from Aryna Sabalenka after defeating Qinwen Zheng in the US Open quarter-finals.

Rybakina went on to defeat Coco Gauff and Sabalenka to claim the title, solidifying her status as the best player on the planet.

Elina Svitolina also rose two spots in the rankings, despite only reaching the third round in New York.

Svitolina's rise had as much to do with the Ukrainian's results as it did with Iga Swiatek and Karolina Muchova's disappointing campaigns.

Both players fell one spot in the rankings after losing in the fourth round and third round, respectively.

Rybakina defeated two former US Open champions en route to winning her first title in Flushing Meadows.

The Kazakhstani first beat Coco Gauff: the 2023 champion.

She then triumphed against Aryna Sabalenka: the two-time defending champion in New York.

In defeating these two players, Rybakina has become the first player to defeat former women's singles champions in the semi-final and final of a Grand Slam event since Victoria Azarenka, according to OptaAce .

Azarenka accomplished the feat at the 2012 Australian Open, defeating Kim Clijsters in the semi-finals and Maria Sharapova in the final.

Clijsters won the 2011 Australian Open, while Sharapova captured the title in 2008.
