Vele was the waiver add of the week, available in more than 85% of ESPN leagues entering Week 1, and this 6-foot-5 weapon made the most of a favorable spot. He lands 40th among wide receivers in PFN's Week 2 rankings for the trip to Baltimore. He's a low-end flex in PPR formats for as long as Jordyn Tyson is sidelined.
Should You Start or Sit Devaughn Vele in Week 2?
The Vele production was encouraging, and I fully understand why he was a hot waiver add (available in more than 85% of ESPN leagues entering Week 1). This is a 6-foot-5 weapon in his third pro season and made the most of an opportunity in a favorable spot last week.
I think it continues and he should be in the flex conversation this week, but I also think that this is fuel for the bullish case on Jordyn Tyson long-term as much as it is anything Vele related.
Yes, in theory this adds to the target competition for the rookie, and that's how I think most will view it. It may result in the sentiment trending away from the eighth overall pick.
For me, this was proof of concept when it comes to this offense being able to support multiple pass catchers. The matchup was just right, and Juwan Johnson isn't always going to be taken away at that level, but I'm encouraged.
Vele is a low-end flex in PPR formats for as long as Tyson is sidelined, but I don't mind the idea of cashing in this chip before the end of September should you find a soft spot in your league where a manager is willing to dismiss Tyson altogether.
