Notre Dame Unveils Helmet Decal Honoring Lou Holtz in New Video Ahead of 2026 CFB Opener

Notre Dame will honor legendary coach Lou Holtz by wearing a special helmet decal during the 2026 college football season.

The Fighting Irish shared a video Wednesday showing a decal made in honor of Holtz, who died in March at age 89.

Holtz won 100 games with Notre Dame while coaching the program from 1986 to 1996, a stretch that included a run to the 1988 national championship. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.

The Fighting Irish are set to open the season while wearing the new decals Sunday against visiting Wisconsin.

William & Mary, where Holtz began his head coaching career in 1969, will honor the late coach the day prior during their home opener against Delaware State.
