😮 Augsburg make history! But Bayern's dominance remains colossal

What a moment for everyone in Augsburg! On Matchday 2 of the 2026/27 season, FC Augsburg sit top of the Bundesliga table for the first time in club history after a 4-1 win in Frankfurt.

That secures the Swabians a place in the history books, making them the 37th club in Bundesliga history to enjoy this spot in the sun at least once, according to a report by 'kicker'. A real milestone.

As wonderful as these surprise moments are for the league, a look at the overall history of all previous table-toppers shows that almost everything pales in comparison to Bayern Munich.

The record champions are not just at the top of the all-time table — they are simply in a league of their own. An astonishing 947 times, the Munich side ended a matchday in first place.

To put that number into proper perspective: eternal rivals Borussia Dortmund come next in second place, but with "only" 176 matchdays at the top. In plain terms, that means Bayern have been top of the table more than five times as often as BVB! Even if you add together all the other clubs in the top 5 (Dortmund, Gladbach, Bremen and Leverkusen), they jointly reach 549 matchdays at the top. That is still not even two-thirds of Bayern's total. It's hard to imagine greater dominance.
