Who's wearing prestigious No. 7 jersey for LSU football this season?

BATON ROUGE – It's not uncommon for LSU football coaches to identify a No. 7 on both sides of the ball.

In fact, there were two 7 jerseys on the team just two seasons ago in Will Campbell – a jersey patch mind you as he was an offensive lineman – and linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. For Lane Kiffin 's first roster with the Tigers, he and his staff are going with a pair of No. 7s as well.

Junior tight end Trey'Dez Green and senior linebacker Whit Weeks will don No. 7 on offense and defense, respectively, in 2026 for LSU , the team announced Aug. 26. Green has been the presumed favorite to wear the prestigious No. 7 jersey this season dating back to the spring. Many believed that Weeks would land the beloved No. 18 jersey but that was awarded to senior center Braelin Moore earlier Wednesday .

No. 7 has become an annual reservation for LSU' s top playmaker. Kiffin and his staff see two suitable players.

Weeks is entering his fourth season in Baton Rouge and has been a force on the defensive side of the ball at linebacker when healthy. He missed much of last season due to a broken ankle but during his sophomore campaign, he was the team's leading tackler.

The 6-3, 226-pound senior linebacker debated on entering his name into the 2026 NFL Draft but ultimately decided to return to college.

At 6-7, Green is a unique offensive weapon and is LSU's top 2027 NFL Draft prospect according to multiple draft experts. He's a menace in the red zone as he led the Tigers in receiving touchdowns in 2025 with seven. He finished with 33 catches for 433 yards.

In two seasons at LSU, Green has 46 careers receptions for 534 yards and 11 scores.

Since the days of former LSU standout cornerback Patrick Peterson , who wore the number, the Tigers began handing out No. 7 to one of the team's expected top playmakers. Other LSU legends such as Tyrann Mathieu and Leonard Fournette wore No. 7.
