Cesc Fabregas' Como equal Champions League record with landmark win at Lens
Cesc Fabregas' Serie A side Como have made UEFA Champions League history after a stunning win at Lens, just weeks after beating Premier League giants Manches...
Cesc Fabregas' Como etched their name into UEFA Champions League history with a stunning 9-1 demolition of Lens, as their remarkable European adventure continues to gather momentum.
The Italian club is competing in the tournament for the very first time, yet have shown no signs of being intimidated. Following a meteoric rise through the ranks in recent seasons, they delivered a ruthless performance on French soil Wednesday night.
With three wins from four matches, Como sit fourth in the league phase at the halfway point - ahead of heavyweights such as Barcelona, Manchester City, Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
Just weeks after dismantling Manchester United, Como have reached new heights, with their victory in France matching the largest winning margin ever recorded in Champions League history, as per The Mirror .
Liverpool's 8-0 triumph over Beşiktaş in 2007 and Real Madrid's identical scoreline against Malmö in 2015 had previously stood as the competition's most commanding victories. Como have now joined that exclusive list - and unlike the Reds and Real, they achieved it on the road.
Fabregas' men were firmly in control at 3-0 up at the break, with Anastasios Douvikas netting twice before the interval. He completed his hat-trick in the second half as the Italians piled on six additional goals.
Nico Paz and Lucas Da Cunha were among the scorers in a remarkable display that saw seven different players get on the scoresheet. Currently sitting fourth in Serie A, Como will face AEK Athens and Real Betis before the year concludes, by which point they may have already secured their spot in the knockout rounds.

They will then have the opportunity to cement their reputation with their remaining two fixtures against Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
Fabregas admitted following their 4-1 victory over the Red Devils that he had second thoughts about instructing his squad to take their foot off the gas despite their overwhelming dominance.
"I have some regrets over the last 10 minutes maybe," the Spaniard later said. "I was actually saying to the team to 'slow the tempo, because we have another game coming up'."
Como's tally of 19 goals across four Champions League matches is bettered only by defending champions PSG, who have netted 20 times in European competition so far this season.
