Premier League: How many times has a player scored a hat-trick in a defeat?
Sunderland's Brian Brobbey scored the first hat-trick by a player on a losing side in the Premier League for 19 years - but how many others have done so?
Brian Brobbey etched his name in Premier League history on Sunday after scoring a hat-trick as part of the losing side.
The Netherlands striker is now only the fifth different player to do so in a Premier League match, after netting three times during Sunderland 's 5-3 defeat by Manchester City .
It is the first time that has happened in the top flight since 2007, and only the sixth time since the Premier League's formation in 1992.
The last player to achieve the feat was Roque Santa Cruz, scoring a hat-trick for Blackburn Rovers in a 5-3 defeat by Wigan Athletic in December 2007.
The four other instances all took place before 2000.
In September 1996, Dwight Yorke scored three for Aston Villa in a 4-3 loss at Newcastle .
Dion Dublin hit a treble for Coventry City in December 1995 during a 4-3 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
Finally, former Southampton forward Matt le Tissier has the dubious honour of scoring hat-tricks in two Premier League losses.
As well as doing so in the competition's inaugural season, during a 4-3 defeat at Oldham Athletic in May 1993, he repeated the feat in August 1995, during a 4-3 home loss to Nottingham Forest .
