Packers work out veteran guard Cordell Volson following Week 1 disaster

The Green Bay Packers are searching through the available veteran offensive linemen for help, potentially on the practice squad, following the pass-protecting disaster in Week 1. According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN , the Packers are working out veteran guard Cordell Volson on Wednesday.

The Packers have a practice squad spot open as of Wednesday afternoon.

Volson was a fourth-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022. Between his rookie season and 2024, the 28-year-old played in 50 games with 48 starts for the Bengals. While he hasn't appeared in a regular season game since 2024, Volson has over 3,000 snaps of regular season experience at left guard.

Volson was most recently with the Tennessee Titans . He spent training camp in Tennessee but was released at final roster cutdowns.

The numbers at Pro Football Focus don't paint Volson as a savior type for the Packers offensive line. He allowed 43 pressures and committed eight penalties during the 2024 season, and his pass-blocking grade finished below 50.0 in each of his final two seasons as a starter. In 2024, only five guards gave up more pressures than Volson's 43.

However, Volson did grade out favorably at PFF during the 2026 preseason with the Titans, especially as a run blocker. He played 73 snaps at right guard for Tennessee.

The Packers could see Volson as a veteran capable of learning the system and providing an emergency option while on the practice squad.
