Kewan Lacy Addresses Lane Kiffin Relationship Ahead of HC's Return to Oxford for Ole Miss vs. LSU

Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy discussed the team's upcoming game against LSU as the Rebels prepare to face former head coach and current Tigers coach Lane Kiffin.

Lacy revealed that he's maintained contact with several former Ole Miss assistant coaches and teammates that are now at LSU but "won't really talk to them until after the season," per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN ).

"I just want to be focused on the game plan and the game," Lacy said Tuesday.

He also explained that "I really don't have a relationship" with Kiffin, via ESPN.

Meanwhile, Ole Miss defensive tackle Will Echoles detailed his reaction to Kiffin departing the school during the 2025 season.

"I was planning on deer hunting in the woods that morning," Echoles said, via ESPN. "... A team meeting got called to announce [Golding] as the head coach.

"It didn't really hit me until the next day when I went to the weight room and [strength] coach [Nick] Savage wasn't there. That's when I realized there were coaches that weren't there anymore."

Although Kiffin helped the Rebels compile an 11-1 record to open their 2025 campaign, he left to sign a seven-year contract worth $91 million with LSU before the end of the season.

Pete Golding was promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach to replace Kiffin at Ole Miss, as the team finished with a 13-2 record and made a College Football Playoff semifinal appearance.

This season, the Rebels and Tigers both own 2-0 records heading into their matchup. Ole Miss took down Louisville and Charlotte to open the year, while LSU has defeated Clemson and Louisiana Tech.

Lacy has been a key factor in the Rebels' hot start, amassing 166 total yards and three touchdowns while averaging 4.9 yards per carry through two contests.

Kickoff between Ole Miss and LSU is on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
