Iowa Stuns Bryce Underwood, Michigan as Time Expires, Final Box Score Stats, Highlights, Reaction

No. 17 Iowa defeated Bryce Underwood and No. 18 Michigan as time ran out on Saturday, winning by the final score of 20-19 in Ann Arbor.

As the Hawkeyes faced a five-point deficit with two seconds left in the fourth quarter and the ball at the Wolverines' 16-yard line, Iowa quarterback Hank Brown found Reece Vander Zee for the game-winning score.

It marked the first loss of the 2026 season for Underwood and Michigan.

Fans and pundits were shocked by Iowa's win, referencing Michigan's controversial season-opening victory over Western Michigan.

Both offenses started off slow on Saturday, trading punts before Michigan finally began to move the ball down the field.

The Wolverines drove to Iowa's 18-yard line before Underwood connected with JJ Buchanan for a touchdown on third down.

Michigan wasn't able to consistently move the chains for the remainder of the first half, although head coach Kyle Whittingham's squad still held a 10-7 lead at halftime.

The Wolverines entered Iowa's red zone once again near the start of the third quarter, but Underwood was picked off to end the possession.

Michigan's defense still held firm, as Iowa couldn't get on the board before the third quarter came to a close.

The Wolverines held a 13-7 advantage heading into the fourth, although the Hawkeyes took their first lead of the game with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Vander Zee.

Michigan didn't take long to respond, however.

On the Wolverines' next drive, Underwood danced in the pocket before launching a deep pass to Buchanan for a 49-yard score.

Iowa's hopes took another hit after a missed a field goal on its next drive, but the Hawkeyes' defense was able to force a Michigan punt and give the team one final shot.

With only one minute and 37 seconds left in the fourth, the Hawkeyes pieced together a 91-yard drive that was capped off by Brown's touchdown pass.

Vander Zee finished with 66 yards and two scores on five catches for Iowa, while Tony Diaz also hauled in three receptions for 46 yards.

The Wolverines fell to 3-1 with the defeat, while the Hawkeyes stayed undefeated and improved to 4-0.
