Former NC State head coach Dave Doeren called for the school to make a larger commitment to its NIL fund after he was fired from his position on Saturday.
"For this program to become what is wanted and expected, the resources need to match the expectations," Doeren said Tuesday, per On3.com's Noah Fleischman . "That is the reality in college sports. I hope, for NC State, that this commitment to football happens."
The Wolfpack parted ways with their head coach after beginning the 2026 season with a 3-5 record. It was a disappointing start for NC State, as the school had posted a winning record in five of the prior six years.
Doeren finished at 98-74 across his 14 seasons patrolling the sidelines for the Wolfpack.
NC State's NIL budget is estimated to be between $22 million and $26 million, according to The Athletic . It ranks No. 6 among 17 ACC schools.
Still, it's worth noting that the NIL fund for the Wolfpack is much less than the country's top schools.
Miami, which sits atop the ACC standings with a perfect 7-0 overall record to go along with a 5-0 mark in the conference, has an NIL budget estimated to be between $44 million and $50 million (via The Athletic).
For now, Todd Goebbel will take over as NC State's interim head coach after he previously served as the team's running backs coach and special teams coordinator.
