Marc Cucurella endures night to forget as Spain beat England

Reigning world champions Spain donned their second star on their jersey for the first time as they took on World Cup semi-finalists England at Wembley Stadium in the UEFA Nations League, securing a 3-2 win to start the campaign.

Real Madrid 's Marc Cucurella played the full 90 minutes but had a tough time up against Arsenal 's Bukayo Saka , as well as being involved in both England goals and having penalty shouts against him.

Lamine Yamal gave Spain an early lead on only two minutes, but Cucurella was caught out as Anthony Gordon played a one-two on the counter attack with Jude Bellingham .

Minutes later, Harry Kane gave England the lead with a header which Cucurella could only knee into his own net. Kane's effort was headed on target, so he avoided an own goal, but he perhaps could have cleared the shot.

Cucurella then had two penalty shouts against him, one for handball and another for bringing down Saka, but Italian referee Davide Massa ignored both. Harry Kane did miss from the spot after a foul by Barcelona midfielder Rodri , before Spain mounted a comeback with Álex Baena pouncing on a poor possession loss from Nico O'Reilly, and Mikel Oyarzabal then giving Spain a 3-2 lead.

Fellow Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen was also back in the squad after being left out of the World Cup, but was an unused substitute at Wembley on Saturday night.
