AP Top 25: BYU tumbles to No. 8 after loss to UCF as Ohio State and Georgia move up on bye weeks
As Ohio State and Georgia moved up without playing, Notre Dame fell despite being off.
Both Ohio State and Georgia were off in Week 8 but they each moved up a spot in the AP Top 25 thanks to BYU's loss.
The Cougars lost 39-31 at UCF in double overtime on Saturday and fell from No. 2 to No. 8. That allowed Ohio State to move up a spot to No. 2 behind No. 1 Miami. The Buckeyes are followed by the Bulldogs, Indiana and Notre Dame.
The Irish were also off in Week 8 but dropped a spot from No. 4. We assume it's because Notre Dame's loss to BYU doesn't look as good as it did a week ago in the minds of the voters.
Utah moved up to No. 6 from No. 10 after a late-night 21-13 win over Houston. The Cougars dropped from No. 14 to No. 18.
After Utah, the top 10 is filled out by UCLA, BYU, Kentucky and Alabama. It's the first time since 2022 that the Wildcats have been in the top 10.
Texas moved up to No. 11 from No. 19 after beating Ole Miss. The Rebels are now a spot below the Longhorns at No. 12 as it's impossible to decipher just how head-to-head results factor into these rankings.
In addition to BYU being behind Notre Dame, Ole Miss is still ahead of Florida — which beat both the Rebels and Longhorns — and Missouri is six spots behind the Gators, who were blown out by the Tigers. Tennessee fell to No. 16 and is six spots behind Alabama despite a dominant win over the Crimson Tide in Week 7.
Texas Tech fell to No. 13 from No. 8 after losing at Cincinnati and is followed by Wake Forest and LSU in the top 15.
In Week 9, there are two ranked matchups as No. 22 Arizona visits No. 13 Texas Tech and No. 17 Florida plays No. 3 Georgia.
