Viral TikTok video shows heartwarming other side of Iowa's iconic 'Hawkeye Wave'

TikTok user Jamie Schallock posted a side-by-side video to her account on Sunday.

On the left, it showed a view of the University of Iowa's iconic " Hawkeye Wave ," which takes place during every home game, where all the fans turn toward the children's hospital overlooking the stadium and wave. The view was from behind a window of a patient's room.

The video on the right shows Schallock and her daughter, Aria, a patient at the children's hospital.

Aria is shown taking in the view as all the fans wave. It is then explained to her that they are waving to her, and she is encouraged to wave back. The video is sure to have you blaming dust for getting in your eyes or accusing someone of cutting onions nearby.

Schallock indicated that this was the second time they had experienced the Hawkeye Wave together. The first came on Sept. 5, an experience she also captured and posted to her account .

The Hawkeye Wave began on Sept. 7, 2017. At the end of the first quarter at every home game, fans, players and coaches from both teams turn toward the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and collectively wave to the patients, letting them know they are seen and offering encouragement through whatever medical ailments they are facing.

In Aria's case, she is dealing with a Wilms tumor. It is a rare form of kidney cancer that mostly impacts children under the age of 5. Schallock has been documenting her family's experience as Aria is on the road to beating cancer.
