Ryan Silverfield: Arkansas ‘absolutely’ working to improve resources for football program

Ahead of Arkansas' Week 3 game against Georgia , the university board announced plans to conduct a review of the athletics department and resources for the football program. Speaking with reporters Monday, Razorbacks head coach Ryan Silverfield said the school is "absolutely" working to improve in that area.

As part of the resolution, approved unanimously by the Arkansas board of trustees, school president Jay Silveria to lead a comprehensive review of the athletics department's competitiveness. It also paved the way for Silveria to look at ways to improve the resources at the football program's disposal.

Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek told ABC's Taylor McGregor he has not yet spoken with the board or Silveria about the statement. When asked about whether the Razorbacks had the resources this year, Silverfield supported they did, and he noted the plans to keep have even more available.

"I like our roster," Silverfield said . "I like the young men we have. We're going to go out there and fight and compete. Our plan is we're going to bring our absolute best every single week. Are we going to continue to work to improve our resources here at the University of Arkansas? Absolutely.

"I also knew that this job wasn't going to be easy. We talked about it when I first got here that there's a reason why we've only won one Power Four home game in the last three years. But it's my job to fix that. I make no doubts and no excuses and no explanations that we will get this fixed and we will get this turned around in the right direction because we have a bunch of guys that believe and are going to keep fighting. Our job is to continue to improve the resources to better give ourselves an opportunity each and every time we take take the field."

Fan frustration has been building at Arkansas as Silverfield goes through Year 1 in Fayetteville. Additionally, separate from the university board's statement, The Athletic reported the Razorbacks have the lowest roster cost in the SEC at between $22 million and $25 million.

Silverfield said fundraising efforts took place this offseason and he took part. While he noted the timing of his hire to replace Sam Pittman meant he wasn't around for the discussions about this year's recruiting class, his goal is to stay aligned with the athletics department when it comes to resources.

"I'm hopeful that everybody's understanding of where we need to get to. … I think a lot of the fundraising is for the betterment of the program, wherever that may end up," Silverfield said. "That's to be determined. A lot of that's out of my hands and we'll figure it out.

"Again, my whole deal is alignment and making sure everybody understands where we want this program to be and where, realistically, we may be. However that money is getting spent and what timetable, that is to be determined. That is currently, right now, out of my control."
