Newcastle duo Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa thriving under Matthias Jaissle after win over Tottenham - Premier League hits and misses

"In Elanga and Wissa, it's like two new players!" said Sky Sports' Jamie Carragher as Newcastle picked up their first win by beating Tottenham.

Anthony Elanga netted his second goal of the season after shining in their 2-2 draw against Liverpool while Yoane Wissa grabbed his first as the rejuvenated pair continued to show their quality at last.

Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle is doing what Eddie Howe couldn't with the duo that were signed for £110m last summer. He also handed midfielder Nico Gonzalez a debut and it was his pass that led to Elanga's opener.

For all the talk of a season of struggle under their new boss after another difficult transfer window, their supporters left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium singing about Europe.

Their chants may have been tongue in cheek, but they will be buoyed by Jaissle's fresh approach, with a side playing with the freedom and togetherness to challenge for European places. David Richardson

In case it wasn't clear, Rayan Cherki is Manchester City's talisman. Erling Haaland is there to get the goals, and as he did at Selhurst Park, will rarely leave margin for error in front of goal.

But as City cry out for a difference-maker between the boxes, Cherki is the one who stands tallest in response.

With two goals and two assists already this campaign, there's a new look to Manchester City's No 10 who showed flashes of his brilliance last season. He decided the game at Selhurst Park, first with a neat slalom through Palace's defence and the second with an audacious strike on his weak foot from range.

So many thought that Kevin De Bruyne's passing of the guard was to Phil Foden. However, under the sheer audacity of Cherki's approach to the game, Foden's role is that of a supporting act.

At the PFA awards this week, Bruno Fernandes alluded to the fact that Cherki could be the player to take his assist record that he claimed just three months ago.

By the looks of things, the way Cherki has started, he could be on the hunt for more than just Fernandes' assist crown. William Bitibiri

Cody Gakpo has attracted interest from Tottenham and Manchester City and with Deadline Day fast approaching his future is far from certain. The impending arrival of Bradley Barcola has also fuelled talk that the Dutchman will be heading for the exit.

But at the same time, Gakpo has been one of Liverpool's best performers during their stuttering start to the season. He scored at Newcastle last weekend and could have had more. On Saturday he put Isak's goal on a plate with a sumptuous cross after getting in down the right.

The switch of flanks from his favoured left side didn't deter him and he was Liverpool's brightest spark during the first half when they otherwise struggled. That versatility is a trait which is important to Iraola with the way he likes his wingers to operate.

This early-season good form from Gakpo, though, could soon be continued in a different club's shirt, should Liverpool receive an offer and opt to cash-in before 11pm on Tuesday. His impactful performances could convince his admirers to make their bid. Peter Smith

Alex Scott is an outstanding talent. The 23-year-old impressed again against Everton on Saturday and is now the beating heart of this Bournemouth team.

Despite an early booking for a late challenge, Scott controlled the midfield with extreme confidence and his goal just before half-time was thoroughly deserved. It was the perfect example of how he plays the game - composure under pressure and effortless precision.

But there was much more to his performance than just that. Against the Toffees, Scott had more touches than any other player (85), made the most defensive contributions (15), covered 11km and completed 11 passes into the final third. He contributed at both ends of the pitch.

Before the game, Bournemouth boss Marco Rose was "120 per cent" confident that Scott would stay beyond Deadline Day despite interest from Manchester City and Chelsea. With two years remaining on his contract, the Cherries insist he is not for sale and there is no reason to suggest he won't be at the club this time next week.

But if Scott keeps putting in performances like this one, it surely won't be long before the big boys start knocking firmly on the door. For Bournemouth's sake, let's hope they can enjoy him for a while longer yet. Dan Sansom

Everyone was excited about Coventry's return to the Premier League. After all, they were the Championship winners and arrived back in the top flight with plenty of optimism.

Two games in, though, it is Hull who are flying the flag for the promoted sides.

The Tigers scraped into the play-offs on the final day before edging their way up - and now they have beaten Manchester United and Coventry to sit second with six points from six.

There was something seriously impressive about this one. Hull were happy to let Coventry have the ball, soak up the pressure and wait for their moment - and when it came, Liam Millar delivered.

Oli McBurnie's point that these are the games that really matter could prove crucial come May.

Jakirovic, meanwhile, is having none of the early title talk despite chants from fans. Wise man.
