Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has taken a step closer to cementing himself as a top 2027 NFL draft prospect with a historic start to the college football season.

ESPN's Jordan Reid ranked Smith as the top prospect in the upcoming NFL draft in his latest 2027 draft rankings .

The rankings are based on Reid's scouting and conversations with other NFL scouts, according to Reid.

Here's a look at how Reid ranked some of the other top players in the projected 2027 draft class.

B/R NFL scouts similarly ranked Smith, Moore and Simmons as the draft's top three prospects, as well as Baugh as the draft's highest-ranked running back on their latest Big Board .

Reid noted each of these top prospects have aspects of their game he feels the players could improve down the stretch of the season.

Smith could make sharper changes of direction, while Moore could "improve his discipline and hand timing at the top of routes," Reid reported. He added Simmons could develop more "consistent counter moves" and Baugh could work on his pass protection.

B/R NFL scouts listed Miami quarterback Darian Mensah at No. 4 on their latest big board, while Reid had no quarterbacks listed among his top 10 prospects.

The highest-ranked quarterback on Reid's list was Oklahoma State signal caller Drew Mestemaker, who came in at No. 11. Red described Mestemaker as a "streaky passer" with "plenty of 'wow' moments."

Mestemaker was followed on Reid's list by Mensah (No. 14), Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss (No. 16), Texas' Arch Manning (No. 17) and Oregon's Dante Moore (No. 20).

Some of these signal callers will likely go higher than their prospect rankings should quarterback-needy teams end up at the top of the NFL draft.

Players will until then continue working on improving their draft stock as Week 5 of the college football season begins Thursday.
