The Oregon Ducks picked up a 17-14 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday night, despite playing without several key players. One of them was star wide receiver Evan Stewart, who sat out with an undisclosed injury. Now, Stewart is reportedly facing a much bigger issue off the field.
The senior receiver was booked into jail early Sunday morning on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants, just hours after the Ducks' win.
Stewart arrived at Oregon as a transfer from Texas A&M, where he was a former five-star recruit. He missed the entire 2025 regular season with a knee injury, but he's bounced back as the Ducks' top target this season.
Through five games, Stewart leads Oregon with 27 catches for 352 yards and four touchdown receptions. But he was downgraded from questionable to doubtful late last week and ultimately didn't play against Nebraska.
Oregon was also without quarterback Dante Moore and receiver Jeremiah McClellan on Saturday night. The Ducks still managed to improve to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play.
A Springfield Municipal Jail employee said that officers booked a person identified as Evan Stewart into the jail at around 7 a.m. on Sunday on a DUII charge, according to KATU .
Stewart was reportedly released about an hour later to a third party whose name matches that of fellow Oregon receiver Dakorien Moore.
"Springfield Police tell KATU news that an Evan Stewart was booked in Springfield Municipal Jail at 7 a.m. on a DUII charge. We were told that he was released at 8 a.m. to a third party, Dakorien Moore," wrote KATU's Hallie DeVore .
KATU noted that the report came after social media posts had circulated claiming that multiple Oregon players had been arrested. As of Monday morning, Oregon had not publicly addressed Stewart's arrest, and the school had not responded to KATU's request for comment.
Obviously, this is an unfortunate development for Oregon as the team cannot afford any more losses if the Ducks are going to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive.
