Ole Miss' Pete Golding Reveals Lane Kiffin Text About Sam Leavitt, LSU Injury Report in New Video

LSU coach Lane Kiffin reached out to Ole Miss' Pete Golding prior publishing an injury report that listed quarterback Sam Leavitt as doubtful for Saturday's game.

"I got the text before the report went out like from Lane 'Hey, our quarterback's out,'" Golding said Friday on The Pat McAfee Show . "I'm like, 'Yeah buddy, I bet he is. I've been around here a lot of Wednesdays with you, man, for three and a half years.'"

LSU upgraded Leavitt to questionable, so the signs appear to be pointing toward him suiting up against the Rebels.

The initial inclusion of the junior signal-caller came as a surprise because he didn't show any signs of getting injured in LSU's 45-14 victory over Louisiana Tech. He went 25-of-38 for 344 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions while running for 22 yards and three scores.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported Thursday that "no one on the Ole Miss staff is convinced" that Leavitt will actually miss Saturday's highly anticipated clash. He reportedly practiced with the team hours later, justifying the general skepticism from Rebels coaches.

ESPN's Alex Scarborough noted the SEC prohibits using the injury report in a way that's intended to gain a competitive advantage. A player who's doubtful is "unlikely to play due to significant concerns."

Proving intent in this case could prove tricky because Leavitt might have a genuine injury that's leaving him at less than 100 percent but one not serious enough to jeopardize his availability.

This is all adding another subplot to a matchup that wasn't lacking in storylines.
