Rangers: Nicolas Raskin 'as good as gold' amid transfer wait - Derek McInnes

Nicolas Raskin has "been good as gold" despite no signs of a transfer from Rangers and the Belgium midfielder's absence from their latest two match-day squads, manager Derek McInnes has stressed.

The 25-year-old was widely expected to be sold after starring at the World Cup, but there have been no bids yet that have piqued Rangers' interest.

Raskin signed a four-and-a-half-year contract when he joined the Scottish Premiership club from Standard Liege in January 2023.

"Nico's been first-class since he came back from the World Cup - he's been good as gold, he's trained brilliantly," McInnes insisted on Sky Sports as he looked forward to Wednesday's visit to Falkirk.

"Obviously there's been a lot of chat about potential interest and there's been a lot of conversations had with the club and prospective buyers.

"But, until an offer comes in that the club need to consider, Nico just has to knuckle down and train.

"I've no doubts that, if the window closes and Nico's still a Rangers player, he'll give brilliant service as he's done previously. He's getting interest because he's a good player. I want to work with good players. We just needs to wait and see how things develop."

As for incomings, McInnes indicated that Rangers are likely to make just one more signing before Thursday's transfer deadline, with Kevin Kelsy reportedly close to a move from Portland Timbers.

The 22-year-old Venezuelan forward appears to be the Ibrox club's choice as a replacement for Youssef Chermiti, who suffered a long-term injury last month just as the Portuguese was subject of major transfer interest.

"We're still working hard to get one in at the minute," McInnes said. "We're getting closer on that one, but we believe it's only going to be the one in.

"If we can get a striker in, that helps alleviate the disappointment of Youssef's injury. I think that would be pretty important for us.

"It wasn't something we were looking to do, so you've got to weigh everything up both from a financial and a numbers point of view in terms of the squad."

Rangers have already signed 12 players this summer in addition to recruiting McInnes himself from Heart of Midlothian.

"I think the club have made the right improvements in certain areas and I think we've had a lot of good work done," he said.

"I'm saying one – you never know, it might be more than one – but, if we can get the one in that we want, it certainly helps alleviate a problem we've got at the minute."

The Ibrox exit door is likely to be busier before Thursday's deadline, with midfielder Lyall Cameron having already joined Dundee United on loan and winger Ross McCausland, striker Bojan Miovski, and defenders John Souttar and Clinton Nsiala among others linked with moves away.

"On players out, there's been a few conversations had," McInnes said. "There may well be things developing over the next 24-48 hours on that front."
