Alejandro Garnacho's season got off to a terrible start – but recent events have improved things for him we hope.

The long international break is a good thing for players who were in a bad way before it, and top of that list was Alejandro Garnacho.

The winger made a loan move to Aston Villa in the summer, but had ended up totally out of favour, playing just a handful of minutes for his new team in the league. This break has allowed him some time to impress while others are away playing for their countries, and all accounts are that he's done well.

The Birmingham Mail report that Villa beat Southampton 1-0 last week in a behind closed doors game, with Garnacho scoring the only goal of the game.

This week his team faced Sevilla and won 3-1, with Garnacho notching again.

He will still find it tough to crack Unai Emery's first team, but this gives his season a big kick start and hopefully leads to more good things once the Premier League resumes.

Chelsea's priority in this break is to improve their defence, and some of the stats from the first 5 games of the season show just how bad things have got.

Jules Kounde keeps being linked to Chelsea – we just can't see a move happening in January, despite the Blues' defensive issues.

Xabi Alonso has a lot to think about in this international break – and part of it has to be how to get Estevao into his team.
