West Ham United: Boss Nuno Espirito Santo reacts to Wrexham win

Nuno Espirito Santo says the atmosphere at the London Stadium is a big advantage to West Ham after his team's thumping win over Wrexham.

A crowd of 59,712 watched the Hammers beat the Welsh side 6-0 as they returned to the top of the Championship.

Head coach Nuno said Friday's result was not any kind of statement or marker, but he did think playing in front of such a big crowd in the second tier was a plus for his players.

"We just focus on ourselves and realise London Stadium is a big strength that we have, to try to take advantage of 60,000 fans who give us so much that we have to try to give back," he told BBC Radio London.

The stadium atmosphere has come under scrutiny, with distance between the pitch and the stands being very different to the cramped, hostile surroundings of their old Upton Park ground.

With a winning team and the crowd behind them, Nuno believes the stadium can become a fortress, but he was keen to play down the significance of such a big win, and of four consecutive victories.

"It's not about sending messages, it's about internally realising that today is good, tomorrow is going to be harder and we have to keep on going," he said.

"There are many teams in our league with the same expectations. Since day one we have a clear goal but we know it is a long long way to go."

Front two Joel Piroe and Taty Castellanos both scored, as did forwards Jarrod Bowen, Manor Solomon and Mohamadou Kante, the latter coming off the bench.

Nuno felt the manner of the victory would be important for morale, following last season's relegation from the Premier League.

"It will boost their confidence for all the players, with the forward line scoring, good combinations, and players coming from the bench with energy - a very positive day for us," he added.

"The positive is that we start seeing things that we repeat over and over again at Rush Green, with players gelling and combining. There's still a long way to go, but [we need to] keep building the momentum so the boys feel confident to go and play."
