A win at home in the first-ever encounter
A convincing victory in the Südschlager (battle of the south): On Monday evening, FC Bayern Women secured a 4–0 (2–0) win in their first-ever game against VfB Stuttgart , marking their seventh victory in their seventh Bundesliga match of the season. In the first half, Linda Dallmann (14th minute) and Pernille Harder (16') settled the hosts' nerves with a comfortable 2–0 lead early on. After the break, Klara Bühl lost no time in making it 3–0 (49'), effectively putting the game beyond doubt. Harder was once again on hand to score the fourth goal of the day, completing her brace in the 59th minute. Just before the final whistle, Edna Imade wrapped up what was a one-sided affair with a header (90').
Barcala: "A very good performance over the full 90 minutes!"
José Barcala : "Stuttgart tried to close down the spaces in the centre with their 5-3-2 formation. We found good solutions and developed a strong rhythm for long periods. The key was that we stayed true to our game plan: opening up play down the flanks, getting into the spaces and regaining depth from there. Overall, it was a very good performance over the full 90 minutes."
Bühl: "You could see just how much self-belief and joy there is in our game"
Klara Bühl : "Against Stuttgart, we saw just how much self-belief and joy there is in our game right now. I'm naturally particularly pleased that I was able to both score a goal and provide an assist today. As a team, we want to remain focused and achieve our big goals."
Dallmann & Harder put their side ahead early on
Bayern took the initiative early on: in the fourth minute, following a precise through ball from Harder, Bühl crossed from the left to Imade, but her header posed no real threat to VfB goalkeeper Laura Giuliani. The next chance also fell to the Munich side: following a fine move, Sarah Zadrazil set up Franziska Kett , whose effort from left of centre went just a few centimetres wide of the post. In the 14th minute, the Munich side were finally rewarded: Zadrazil played a great pass to Harder, who drove the attack down the right and sent Sarah Mattner through with a long ball. From the byline, Mattner delivered the ball with pinpoint accuracy into the centre, where Dallmann ran onto it and headed home the cross. Just two minutes later, coach José Barcala 's side doubled their lead: Kett played the ball from the left-hand corner of the penalty area out to Bühl, who, after a one-two with Dallmann, crossed back into the box and all the way through the six-yard box, where Harder was on hand to make it 2–0 (16').
After 20 minutes, the Stuttgart side began to make their presence felt in attack: Yuka Hirano tried her luck from distance, but sent the ball well over the Munich goal. This did little to alter the flow of the game. The next chance came in the 36th minute: Momoko Tanikawa lofted the ball to Dallmann, whose shot inside the box was blocked by the Stuttgart defence. Just before half-time, Tanikawa found herself in space inside the box, but her effort missed the target by just a few centimetres.
Bayern came out firing after the break too: barely 30 seconds had passed when Tanikawa got a shot away in the penalty area following a lay-off from Mattner. However, her attempt to curl the ball into the top corner from a half-right position went just a little too high. In the 49th minute, the hosts got a third: Harder played a pinpoint pass into the channel, Bühl broke clear, rounded goalkeeper Giuliani and slotted the ball comfortably into the empty goal. Just two minutes later, Bayern looked to increase their lead: following a pass from Dallmann, Kett attempted to slot the ball home in the near corner but was just off-target, so Giuliani didn't have to make the save. In the 59th minute, though, it happened again: the agile Dallmann played the ball on to Tanikawa, who carried it forward a few metres and picked out Harder on the left with a precise through pass. The Denmark international first-timed the ball with her right boot, slotting it low into the left corner.
Bayern were now playing with real abandon: Tanikawa tried her luck herself shortly afterwards, but missed the target, as did Dunst, whose shot went too high following a fine run (65'). Just a minute later, Bühl initiated an attack, passing the ball to Tanikawa, who then found Harder, but her effort struck the post. Just before the final whistle, Imade was rewarded for her performance, nodding home from a fine cross from Sophie Proost to make it 5–0 and wrapping up a more than deserved home win in the Südschlager .
