Josh Jacobs explains controversial touchdown celebration is not how it looks
Many thought Jacobs' celebration had something to do with his legal situation
Josh Jacobs had the internet abuzz last night with a controversial touchdown celebration against the Carolina Panthers . The Green Bay Packers running back insists it's not what you think.
After punching in a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, Jacobs put his arms behind his back for a celly many thought looked like handcuffs -- a possible nod to his recent domestic violence arrest and stint on the NFL's commissioner exempt list.
It turns out Jacobs was actually referencing the gospel song Break Every Chain by Tasha Cobbs Leonard.
"Basically, last week, we said the first celebration, when I score, I was going to thank God -- that's what I did last week," Jacobs said . "The second one was going to be Break Every Chain . It's a gospel song. That was going to be the next celebration. It's just a correlation, but like I said, the media [is] going to run with it. They're going to make it something that it wasn't, but it is what it is."
Well, it's hard to blame anyone who thought differently based on how it looked on TV.
Jacobs says the Thursday Night Football cameras cut before the world saw his entire celebration, but regardless, it's not the greatest display of self-awareness.
The 28-year-old returned last week after six weeks on the commissioner exempt list, receiving plenty of boos from Detroit Lions fans, and now has three touchdowns over two games.
