Jeremiah Smith Makes History With Rare Stat, Watch Ohio State WR's Top Highlights vs. Illinois

One week after becoming Ohio State's all-time leading receiver, Jeremiah Smith reached the 3,000-yard mark for his career on Saturday.

Smith became the first player in OSU history with at least 3,000 career receiving yards thanks to some big plays during the Buckeyes' 42-19 win over Illinois:

The 20-year-old phenom racked up 12 receptions for 217 yards, and scored four receiving touchdowns from seven, 72, nine and 26 yards out:

Smith entered Saturday's contest with 2,958 career receiving yards, which placed him above the likes of Emeka Egbuka, Michael Jenkins, Chris Olave, David Boston and Marvin Harrison Jr. on Ohio State's all-time list.

By the end of the season, Smith figures to be atop the Buckeyes' all-time receiving leaderboard in every major statistical category.

He started Saturday's game against Illinois third in career receptions for Ohio State with 184, just 21 behind the career leader in Egbuka.

Smith was also tied for fourth in career touchdown catches with 30, but after reeling in four against the Fighting Illini, he moved into second place, just one behind Olave, who is OSU's career leader with 35.

Regarded by many as the best player in college football regardless of position, Smith is firmly in the conversation to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL draft.

Of course, a quarterback-needy team picking first overall could choose to address that position instead, but it seems likely that Smith will be the first non-QB off the board next April.
