Atletico Madrid punish wasteful Man Utd as Carrick’s problems continue

Manchester United suffered another setback as Atletico Madrid claimed a 2-0 Champions League victory over Michael Carrick's side in Spain.

Pablo Barrios gave Atletico the perfect start, firing the hosts ahead inside the opening minute.

Diego Simeone's side thought they had doubled their lead shortly before the break when Johnny Cardoso found the net from the edge of the box, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review for handball in the build-up.

United's task became even harder midway through the second half when Leny Yoro was sent off after a VAR review for denying Jonathan David a goalscoring opportunity.

Ademola Lookman then secured all three points for the home side, tapping in from close ranger after Senne Lammens had denied Jonathan David.

The defeat adds further pressure on Carrick after United's difficult start to the season, with his side again unable to turn promising spells into goals.
