Todd McShay's New 2027 NFL Mock Draft Drops with 4 QBs in 1st 5 Picks amid Manning, Moore Buzz

Two full weeks into the college football season and mock draft season is in full swing with Todd McShay releasing his latest look at the 2027 class.

In McShay's new mock released for The Ringer, the top of the draft is dominated by quarterbacks with four coming off the board in the first five picks and six in the top 10, led by Arch Manning at No. 1 overall to the Miami Dolphins.

Here are the top 10 picks in McShay's initial 2027 projection.

McShay Not Concerned with Moore's Draft Stock

The Miami Dolphins are projected in the No. 1 spot right now. It seems like a safe bet based on how the front office went about constructing the roster in the offseason combined with an uninspired 27-13 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1.

McShay did note he would expect "an absolute HAUL" of a trade offer for the top pick whomever ends up getting it.

The New York Jets were cited as the team most-likely to offer the haul since they could offer four first-round picks over the next two years, including three in 2027 thanks to previous trades with the Dallas Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts.

As for the player taken at the top of the draft, McShay cited Manning as having "NFL size, plenty of arm talent, and legitimate speed and play-extension mobility" as points in his favor.

The primary areas of concern for Manning, according to McShay, are his mechanics that tend to "come and go" and locking onto his primary reads for too long, but he has the "tools to be an elite NFL QB."

Even though Manning is in the No. 1 spot at the moment, Dante Moore has the same grade (95) as him in McShay's ranking.

Oregon has had a rough start to the season, but Moore is not to blame for the issues. He has thrown for 569 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions on 66 attempts.

"He consistently throws receivers open and delivers a catchable ball that allows them to transition upfield immediately," McShay wrote about Moore.

No franchise has been begging for even competent quarterback play more than the Cleveland Browns. If they are able to land Moore in the draft, their ceiling looks much brighter with a group of skill-position talent already in place that includes Harold Fannin Jr., Denzel Boston and KC Concepcion.

Further down in the top 10, McShay suggests the Carolina Panthers might be ready to move on from Bryce Young by giving them CJ Carr with the seventh pick.

It wouldn't be a huge surprise if the Panthers made that call after opting not to extend Young in the offseason. Next year marks the final season of his rookie contract, so there is pressure on him to take a step forward after showing some progress in 2025.

The only non-quarterbacks among the top seven selections in McShay's projection are wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Cam Coleman. He has them going to the Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders, respectively. Those are the two teams that have selected quarterbacks No. 1 overall in each of the past two years.

Smith to the Titans would essentially be recreating the top of the 2025 Ohio State receiver room after they selected Carnell Tate with the fourth pick in this year's draft.

It doesn't speak great of the Titans' roster-building process that they would be using back-to-back top-four picks on wide receivers, but Week 1 didn't make it seem like their offseason plan did a lot to help Cam Ward in his sophomore campaign.

The Raiders would seem to have wide receiver high on their list of priorities with Fernando Mendoza set to take over at some point either later this season or to start 2027.

Vegas' receiver depth chart right now is led by Tre Tucker, Jalen Nailor and Jack Bech. Tight end Brock Bowers gives the Raiders an elite passing-catching option, but they need more help on the outside as they build around Mendoza.
