Urban Meyer Touts Jeremiah Smith as 'Best Receiver in CFB History' After Setting Ohio State Record

After setting a new Ohio State record for career receiving yards in Saturday's 59-3 victory against Kent State, star wideout Jeremiah Smith received some lofty praise.

Urban Meyer, who coached the Buckeyes from 2012 to 2018, declared during an appearance on the Triple Option podcast that Smith's standing in Ohio State history puts him ahead of every wide receiver ever to play college football.

"To say you're the best receiver in Ohio State history, I'm biased about this, but then he probably is the best receiver in college football history," Meyer said (9:51 mark).

Ohio State is one of the schools that could definitively make the case to be "Wide Receiver U," boasting a long list of star pass-catchers who went on to become impact players in the NFL.

Smith has long been expected to keep that tradition going, and he further boosted his chances of being the 2027 No. 1 NFL draft pick when he broke Michael Jenkins' mark of 2,898 yards in Saturday's win. He now has 2,958 receiving yards in three seasons with the Buckeyes.

While Smith is not likely to break Corey Davis' NCAA record of 5,285 career receiving yards, it's safe to assume that he will continue his dominance as Ohio State chases a national championship this year.

Smith and the Buckeyes (2-1) will be back in action on Saturday in a Big Ten matchup against Illinois (2-1).
